About Us
Using music to build brighter lives.
Our Beginning
Founded from a belief in music as a force for social change.
Wings of Music was founded in March 2009 by renowned Chinese musician and educator Chai Liang, inspired by the philosophy and social impact of Venezuela's El Sistema.
In 2017, Wings of Music Charity Foundation was established in Hong Kong to provide more children from low-income grassroots families with free opportunities to study classical music and the arts.
Our mission: to use the power of music to create a better life.
Education Philosophy
Music connects.
- Love is the foundation; joyful teaching brings children together.
- Collective learning encourages students to support one another.
- High-quality teachers help children find confidence and discipline.
- Performance and exchange opportunities create a real platform for artistic practice.
El Sistema
A public-good music education project with a global model.
The Wings of Music public welfare project follows the spirit of El Sistema, using music as a medium for social inclusion, cooperation, cultural participation, and sustained growth for individuals and communities.
El Sistema, the Venezuelan youth music education system, has helped more than three million children from disadvantaged families through free classical music education and has become a global example of music education and social change.
Wings of Music applies these ideas through ensemble training, joyful teaching and accessible music education.
Development
Dreams set sail through more than a decade of work.
Since its founding, Wings of Music has received support from many artists, educators and caring members of the community. Students have gone on to study at East Shore Arts School and continue their journeys at leading music institutions in China and abroad.
Wings of Music has promoted instrument courses in about 30 schools, including strings, brass and woodwinds, helping students find their own voices through music.
Talent Plan
Nurturing music dreams and artistic futures.
The talent plan began in 2019 through a collaboration between the Central Conservatory of Music Ding Shi Experimental School and Wings of Music. It offers professional resources and growth opportunities for gifted students, encouraging courage, confidence, friendship and artistic exploration.
Selected students from Dandelion Middle School continue to refine skills including saxophone, classical guitar, sight-singing, ear training and piano as their music dreams set sail.
